The Cost
Before my senior year of college I decided that I wanted to make a short film. This film would be my senior project, my "thesis". I started writing the script to "The Cost" during the summer between my junior and senior years. One issue that I think is particularly relevant now is the high price of a college education. This education is not accessible to everyone because of the price of tuition. I had been having a particularly hard time with my school's financial aid office and their selectivity to who was and was not qualified for aid. There were moments that I had with aid counselors that were so inconsiderate that it was almost comical. Although I was left frustrated, with no aid and forced to take out loans because of a small rule regarding being a child of divorce- I was also left inspired. I scripted this project by the beginning of the school year, held auditions, gathered together a crew and filmed over two weekends in November. I also had to budget for this film. Ironically, Brandeis granted me funding for this film but not for my own college education.
This project is by far the most difficult yet fulfilling work I have ever done. Through pursuing this film I learned so much about pre production planning and post production editing. I mastered color correcting and sound design through this film and ultimately created a product I was so proud of. Please take a look below...
